Charakusa Valley Expedition: In Photos
We have all heard of the world’s famous rock climbing and alpine areas: Yosemite, Chamonix, Patagonia, Red Rocks, Gorges du Verdon, etc.
But few have heard of Charakusa Valley – deep in the heart of Central Karakoram National Park in Baltistan, Pakistan. To my knowledge, the first time the Charakusa got international recognition was when world-renowned adventure photographer Jimmy Chin published photos of his expeditions here in 1999 and 2001.
Even now though the Charakusa Valley sees very few foreign visitors every year and those who do come are usually world-class rock climbers keen to check out the fabled granite walls dotted around K6 and K7 peaks. This is a wild, weather and windswept place with no permanent settlements – making it the perfect place to capture the unique rugged landscapes of the Karakoram.
Below is a collection of photographs from a recent expedition to this mythical land.
